June 21st marked a serene and inspiring celebration of health, mindfulness, and unity at Progress Medical University, Gyumri, as students, faculty, and staff gathered to observe International Yoga Day.
The event was graced by the presence of renowned Yogini Mrs. Kanchan Pandey, whose deep-rooted knowledge, poise, and passion for yoga brought a powerful sense of calm and purpose to the campus atmosphere. With her guidance, participants engaged in a series of traditional asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and brief meditative practices that echoed this year’s theme — “Yoga for Self and Society.”
A Day of Inner Harmony and Collective Well-being
Held in the lush green courtyard of the university, the event opened with a short introduction by university representatives, emphasizing the significance of integrating yoga into the daily lives of future healthcare professionals. As the morning sun rose, Yogini Kanchan Pandey led a gentle yet invigorating session that included Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation), mindful breathing, and basic meditation techniques suitable for all levels.
Her encouraging presence and clear instruction helped even first-time practitioners feel welcomed and empowered. “Yoga is not just physical fitness. It is about achieving mental clarity, emotional stability, and a deeper connection with one’s self and others,” she said during her opening talk.
A Unifying Experience
Participants included students from diverse cultural backgrounds, international faculty members, and local guests — truly reflecting yoga’s universal appeal. The session concluded with a collective chant of Om Shanti, reinforcing the message of global peace and personal harmony.
Students expressed how the session helped relieve academic stress and reconnected them with the importance of mental wellness. For many, it was a first experience with guided yoga, and several shared their intention to make it a part of their regular routine.
Looking Ahead
Progress Medical University has always promoted holistic well-being alongside academic excellence. This year’s Yoga Day celebration, under the soulful guidance of Mrs. Kanchan Pandey, reinforced that vision. Plans are underway to establish regular yoga and mindfulness workshops on campus to support students’ physical and emotional health.
As the celebration drew to a close, it left behind more than just flexibility in limbs — it cultivated flexibility in thought, compassion in hearts, and balance in minds.
Here’s to a healthier, calmer, and more connected future — one breath at a time.
Happy International Yoga Day! 🧘♀️🌿
